Sebastian Croft's (@sebastiancroft) portrayal of a gay character in Heartstopper has fans speculating if the actor is gay outside of the camera. Well, he is openly queer. He has made his support for the LGBTQ community quite evident.
On July 2, 2022, he tweeted a video of Pride supporters dancing in the streets to Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) just a few days before she was spotted leaving a VIP party in London with Olivia Rodrigo. The caption on the post stated, "Love always wins #Pride."

Later, in August 2022, Sebastian Croft expressed gratitude to fans for their support and for purchasing t-shirts that stated, "Queer was always here." The Heartstopper cast also stated that they raised $150,000 to assist LGBTQ refugees, particularly those fleeing emergencies. And more recently, he took to Instagram to mark the end of Pride month by posting a photo dump of his parade costume. The caption stated, "Happy pride u beautiful people (sic)."
Sebastian Croft rose to prominence as Ben Hope in Neftlix's queer adolescent drama Heartstopper. "It's not depressing, (and) it's not sad," he added regarding the show. But when it was reported that the actor will be providing the voice for a playable character in the Harry Potter-inspired video game Hogwarts Legacy, social media users took to the internet to express their outrage.
The news shocked members of the LGBTQ community because Croft would be working with Harry Potter creator J. K. Rowling, who has made transphobic remarks. Following the outpouring of support from fans, the actor took to Twitter and wrote:
I was cast in this project over 3 years ago, back when all Harry Potter was to me was the magical world I grew up with. This was long before I was aware of JK Rowling's views. I believe wholeheartedly that trans women are women and trans men are men.
During an interview, Sebastian Croft recalled feeling quite insecure in high school. He admitted, "I was always an outcast." The actor said that his adolescent years were not pleasant, and he turned to fashion to feel different. Since his fashion awakening at 14, the actor has used clothing to escape bullying and has enjoyed putting together the most daring and eccentric ensembles he could discover. According to him,
